• Tipping the scale at 230 (5'10) in May, 2007, at 30%+ body fat, I decided to do something about it. This blog is about that continuing journey. Having lost 60 pounds of fat and gained 20 pounds of muscle -- on the way to 10% BF -- I'm ready to reveal my "secrets." I'm enthusiastic about helping others achieve real results. The mainstream advice is mostly wrong. One need only take a look around.

Good Books

While I'll make this more extensive over time, for now I'm going with a list forwarded to me by a reader in Lisbon, Portugal, Richard Carvalho. Some of these I've read and recommend, others I have but have not yet read, and still others have yet to be acquired. However, this looks like an excellent place to start. Nothing should be implied by the order in which these are listed.

  1. The Protein Book: A Complete Guide for the Athlete and Coach (2007), Lyle McDonald
  2. Ketogenic Diet: A Complete Guide for the Dieter and Practitioner (1998), Lyle McDonald
  3. Guide to Flexible Dieting (2005), Lyle McDonald
  4. Girth Control: The Science of Fat Loss & Muscle Gain (2007), Alan Aragon
  5. The Fat Loss Bible (2008), Anthony Colpo
  6. The Great Cholesterol Con (2006), Anthony Colpo
  7. Knowledge and Nonsense (2007), Jamie Hale
  8. The Protein Power Lifeplan (2000), Michael R. Eades, MD
  9. The Paleodiet (2002), Loren Cordain, PhD
  10. Health Secrets of the Stone Age (2005), Philip J. Goscienski
  11. The Glycemic-Load Diet (2006), Rob Thompson
  12. Nourishing Traditions (1999), Sally Fallon, W. A. Price Foundation
  13. Eat Fat, Lose Fat (2006), Mary Enig, PhD

Richard also has a list on Amazon with lots more.
