Well, let me put it this way: Some people have been tossing these traffic camera "tickets" straight into the trash for quite a while now…just like some people have been tossing their jury summonses straight into the round file for as long as they can remember. Some people don’t want to be willing accomplices to their own robbery or enslavement. And some people certainly don’t want to help the state be more efficient in its stealing.

Let the state undertake to deliver their traffic tickets and jury summonses by personal service. Can you guess what’d happen if a lot more people did that?

Update: It’s probably a waste of time to point this out to the first commenter, Theodore Craig. Generally, when I hear "if just one ____ is saved…," it’s just time to pack up shop, because you’re not dealing with anyone who’s yet learned the finer points of thinking.

As someone who does the speed limit, on the limited number of times I drive, these cameras don't bother me at all. In fact, I think that there a great tool that helps to punish people who constantly ignore the speed limits in some areas!

To figure out if it's worth it, ask yourself how many children have been saved by these cameras, and then it will all become clear… If one person slows down, and one child is saved from being hit, it was worth it all!

Listen up. I don't _need_ you or some bureaubot telling or instructing _me_ in what is a prudent speed to drive. If' you're so incompetent that you don't _know_, what is a prudent speed, given _any_ situation, _all_ things considered–including your own skills–then _you_ probably ought not be driving any time when other cars and pedestrians are around.

The fact of the matter is that there is no single _safe_ speed anywhere, at any time, for every one. It's always different for everyone, at all times, in all situations, depending on _everything_ relevant.

Telling me that you 'always do the speed limit' tells me that you can't think for yourself, which makes you a dangerous menace on the road, in my book.

    Theodore,

I've taken a special note of your opinion, . Richard's exactly correct, and you need to wake the fuck up.

"Telling me that you 'always do the speed limit' tells me that you can't think for yourself, which makes you a dangerous menace on the road, in my book."

You basically summed up my entire worldview in twenty-someodd words. No wants to GO anywhere anymore. They'd rather get behind the wheel and chug along "safely" at whatever arbitrary number is posted on the nice white sign. Give me a break. Just because it SAYS 55 doesn't mean your tires will come loose and roll down the highway if you drive 20 miles over.

About FreeTheAnimal

I'm Richard Nikoley. Free The Animal began in 2003 and as of 2020, has 5,000 posts and 120,000 comments from readers. I blog what I wish...from lifestyle to philosophy, politics, social antagonism, adventure travel, nomad living, location and time independent—"while you sleep"— income, and food. I intended to travel the world "homeless" but the Covid-19 panic-demic squashed that. I've become an American expat living in rural Thailand where I've built a home. I celebrate the audacity and hubris to live by your own exclusive authority and take your own chances. [Read more...]
