San Jose, downtown. It’s a mere five minutes away from my home. It’s every Friday from 10-2. All of these can be clicked for the larger hi-res version.

Those heirloom tomatoes are from my very favorite farmer at San Pedro Square! They have the best Chinese eggplant and those heirloom tomatoes are delicious and very reasonably priced. I bought my tomatoes for dinner tonight from them!

The Stawberries in your photos are huge. I’m from Toronto Canada and the local strawberries here are half the size and less sweet. I tend to avoid the ones coming from the US because they seem abnormally large and too sweet. I wonder if they are simply a different breed or have they been modified?

Makes you want to be there. Colorful and aromatic.

But for tomatos the best I must say is the ones from Valencia, Spain . which are cultivated in sand! Are very expensive almost as much as beef! But worth it.

If you ever travel to Spain ask for it.

A long distance primal greeting from Spain.

I love farmer’s markets. The Culver City farmer’s market (Tuesdays 2-7pm) is where I get my pasture raised eggs, grass-fed beef, freshly-roasted-that-morning coffee, raw-milk cheeses, and excellent kimchi, along with the usual fruits and vegetables. I’ll have to start investigating the wild-caught fish–maybe to make the mackerel featured on Mark’s Daily Apple a few weeks ago.

Recently, I was wearing my Vibram’s five fingers at the farmer’s market when one of the vendors said “hey, you’ve got them five fingers!” Farmer’s markets is where the new “in” crowd is at.

I'm Richard Nikoley. Free The Animal began in 2003 and as of 2020, has 5,000 posts and 120,000 comments from readers. I blog what I wish...from lifestyle to philosophy, politics, social antagonism, adventure travel, nomad living, location and time independent—"while you sleep"— income, and food. I intended to travel the world "homeless" but the Covid-19 panic-demic squashed that. I've become an American expat living in rural Thailand where I've built a home. I celebrate the audacity and hubris to live by your own exclusive authority and take your own chances. [Read more...]
