Dr. Jack Kruse, Neurosurgeon, is a Big Effing Liar

May 16, 2012 581 Comments

Now I know

I was admonished over and over. For months. By “People.” Many…”People.” Now, mind you: everyone lies. Really. But I’ve always been the sort to dismiss so-called “white lies,” and hyperbole. Moreover, I sit as my own judge in determining for myself whether any particular lie rises to my own standard of outrage—because everyone should have their own standard of outrage.

Let’s take progress pics, mine included: tan, suck in the gut a bit—not too much—suitable clothing, decent photography, etc.

Like this?

Dr. Jack Kruse, Nov. 2009?

No, not even close, and anyone with just a small bit of sense would know immediately it’s not only not Dr. Kruse, but most likely never will be. But can you prove it? Indeed, you can. So here goes.

I got emailed a link last evening, right here (if you don’t click & look, you’ll be a bit lost going forward). It’s a screen clip of a photo posted at 7:02pm on May 9, 2012, to IPMG (International Paleo Movement Group) by Jack Kruse from his personal FB profile (not the one representing his blog/website). Yes, as my earlier post attests and is totally genuine, that group is awesome. But this is how I found out about it…not getting out, much. So, please don’t let this post dissuade you in any way from enjoying the huge value that group is creating day by day.

Like I said, I knew immediately that was not Jack’s back. And I could not imagine how someone could be so brash as to try to pass it off as such. Given events recently, the spoof/parody Twitter account, and still extending (expending?) every benefit of doubt I could until my eyes bled out, I noted that Jack’s blog/website account is “Dr. Jack Kruse” and this was from “Jack Kruse,” and with a different profile pic. Was he being spoofed, again? Well, it didn’t take long to discover he has a personal FB as well, and he has a lot of posts on it tagged public, so you know it’s him (plus, the who’s who of friends he has).

I then joined IPMG, and scrolled for a long time (there are just tons and tons of posts there, every day) to get a single week back to assure myself that yes, Jack did, in fact, post this:

Screen Shot 2012 05 16 at 8 26 47 AM
Screen Shot 2012 05 16 at 8 26 47 AM

…And you know what? I have debated with myself, talked to “People” on the phone, etc. …Over the last six hours, deciding first to give it a rest and deliberate, and so on. …And then I look at those comments to that post.

And then I look at those comments to that post

And then, I look at those comments to that fucking post….

Every time I do, I feel more and more ashamed for extending the benefit of the doubt, getting in huge arguments with “People”…even telling some “People” to fuck off, including one of the nearest, dearest and best “People” friends I’ve ever had.

Go look through the hard ass work some of these people are doing at IPMG and posting it, including women in their panties. Their own hard work; and then, imagine that someone just has to 1-up everybody; and even to the point where, because he’s a doc & surgeon—and ought righteously to be above reproach—they innocently submit to him.

Evil? You decide.

Jack Kruse, in the end, asked more than I could ever give and I was willing to give a fuck of a lot. I was willing to put up with his over the top hyperbole as just an ethic: people put up with my over the top blogging in terms of being whatever it is people think of me. I’m paying back.

I’ve had numerous exchanges with him by text and phone. I always thought he was worth the effort.

But I’m done.

Blogging is being yourself. If you’re playing a role, you have a website. I’ve been being myself and blogging about it—with all the stinky included, since 2003—and it ‘aint worth Jack, or anyone else. BTW, giving Jack leeway wasn’t unprecedented, even amongst the so-called “Paleo elite.” Robb Wolf did, but he became impatient too. I doubt Robb would regret that I mention that he and I had a long email exchange over that, and the real gist is, it’s a bummer. Jack is really dynamic and hype be dammed. He could help a lot, but this level of lying is just not something I can abide.

Yes, I did the reverse image search on the photo as well, as my final step of due diligence even though I knew precisely what I would find. If you have any further doubts, click here, courtesy of more good “People.”

OK, so now I invite every single People or just people to tell me “I told you so.” I guess I deserve it. The one thing is, I no longer have to take anyone’s word for it and that’s an important thing for me. Yea, I suppose I could have dug, so it’s not a huge point.

Onward.

Addendum (5/17/2012): Having looked at at all the comments so far and the other action here and there and around, seeing pretty much what I expected, I figured it was perhaps time to add a bit to the post about the first couple of times Jack made me doubt his sincerity. I brushed those two things off as “strikes 1 & 2,” but it’s not as though, as some of Jack’s defenders attest, that I just went off half-cocked here.

First of all, I talked to Jack by phone—basically a mini-interview—in advance of my first post about him and the controversy involving Leptin Reset and Cold Thermogenesis. I thought both protocols had merit and wanted to spread the word. I’d already seen his Tedx Talk and how he described having had surgery without general anesthesia, went home, had his wife and daughter pack him in ice, etc., etc. As I asked him about all of this over the phone he added that it was that night, January 9th, that I had spoken with him on the phone.

Ever been in a conversation with someone and out of politeness, don’t call them on an inconsistency? Perhaps he’s mistaken. I didn’t actually know which specific evening I’d spoken with him and it’s 3 months later. So, maybe he’s mistaken about the day. Give it a pass.

Now in retrospect, perhaps it was very important because, you see, for three months I had in mind that when I called, Jack was doing a major CT self experiment. I forget how many hours he said he was going to do, but:

  1. He said not one word about having surgery.
  2. He said not one word about injecting himself with bacteria.

When I asked why he was doing this, he said, “chronic back pain.” He also said that his family had no idea he was doing this, that he had taken time off work to do it, had someone watching over him, and that he was eating during the experiment. So, the Tedx talk 3 months later is the first time I hear about the bacteria, surgery, and that his family was involved in the ice packing. Still, I didn’t not connect that with my previous conversation with him because there was essentially nothing about the stories that were the same. So when he claimed our conversation was that same night I should probably have not given it a pass, but I did.

Next, during that same phone conversation in advance of my first post, he told me about his “Factor X” and I believe my response was along the lines of ‘huh, interesting.’ Later, in his podcast interview Abel James, that somehow gets translated into “Richard was totally blown away!” I think he even said it twice. Perhaps it would have been nitpick of me to bring it up then, but not so much now.

Anyway, Jack initially had quite a lot of defenders in this comment thread coming in to complain, then explain how Jack’s Facebook account got hacked, etc. They appear to have been silenced, as it has been pointed out that while Jack says he was not on FB at all on May 9th (and was “hacked”), there’s 10 other posts from him on his personal FB page that people have screen clips of (in case they’ve been deleted to cover tracks), and there’s posts on his fan page as well, as well as interaction with commenters. In short, there’s a whole lot of reasons this simply was not a hack, and essentially no reasons—without trying to explain how the planets orbit the earth—that it was.

And there’s a whole lot more.

Finally, as I’ve said to others in comments, I understand that everyone arrives at their own conclusions in their own time, and based on differing amounts of information. And that’s totally fine. I’m just saying that what I’ve found and have posted about is now plenty for me.

I get asked all the time to pose for penis enlargement photos. Maybe Jack and I have that in common?

I only found this post because Robb Wolf enganged this kook (who I’d never heard of) on twitter today.

Just wanted to say, 3.5 years later, this sick burn holds up. Very nice.

I can’t really say “I told you so” because I was never really decided one way or the other. It is disappointing though…cheers for blogging about it and doing your due diligence.

We’ll see what Jack has to say about this. Someone on IPMG already asked if it was a stock photo about an hour ago and there’s been no response yet.

It does appear to be a stock photo uploaded on stock exchange (www.sxc.hu/), and it is attributed to the portfolio of Arash James Iravan, who has a couple of hundred other fitness model photos.

    Richard,

I have nothing but good things to say about you. Not that it should matter so long as you believe in your self and your own thoughts. Oh hell, I have told plenty of friends to fuck off. If they get offended, then really FUCK OFF.

You are golden man. You are strong and brave enough to admit your screw ups in front of thousands. I say huzza to you. Keep up the good work.

You are real and raw and a total original, with balls and integrity.

I was on the fence with Kruse because some of his advice was working for me, but as all of this craziness was going on, and I was doing more of my own research, and I’ve found none of his advice is originally his. It’s all borrowed … if you’ve read Wolf, Sisson, TS Wiley, Rosdale, and Ferris/Cronise, it becomes clear. It’s certainly true that people are getting good results from his advice, but the info exists elsewhere so why put up with or overlook all of his infantile, psuedo-messianistic bullshit.

    • Richard Nikoley May 16, 2012 at 15:39

That’s it, Kim. I still don’t mind Jack getting “raise awareness” credit.

But nobody needs him anymore, and he didn’t figure out soon enough in spite of lots of admonitions (tons nobody will ever know about) how to make of himself a real and true value.

With this, the only way it should be going forward is coming totally clean on everything and asking what he can do to help.

    • Kamal Patel May 16, 2012 at 16:22

You guys must have seen some of the analysis of Jack’s thinking by paleo ivory tower elitists as well as the ol’ stupid moderators at paleohacks in the past year or so.

Some of it echos Richard’s thought pattern– you can separate the ideas from the person (kind of like separating morality from religion) and it becomes cleaner. But you simply can’t do that with a person who ardently builds a public image such as Jack. He lobbied for a TEDx talk, but before then he was/is one of the top paleohacks users and MDA forum members. There have been many back and forths about things he has said and claimed, and rehashing it would take hours if not days. This is just a smidgen of the analysis, from many months ago:

Personally, I’ve had dozens upon dozens of online run-ins with Jack, but would still very occasionally read things he says if they were interesting and factual (mostly about my academic subject of interest, chronic pain treatment, and his knowledge of the nervous system).

The problem is that he is a very different beast than Sisson, Wolf, Kresser, McEwen, Deans, etc etc. They all have unique personalities, but there is no way in goshdarn heck that they would post a fake picture of themselves to a public group, with specific dates and protocols listed.

Isn’t this whole thing just plain weird? I can’t believe this made-for-TV type stuff is now de-facto a paleo issue.

    • Kamal Patel May 16, 2012 at 16:39

Latest from Dr. Kruse: “appears I have been hack all over social media……”

Someone says he is claiming that his facebook page was hacked from May 9-11, and he just found out! Oh my goodness. Maybe it was…Lance? Or the paleo ivory tower elitists?

    • Lindsay May 16, 2012 at 16:40

Ockham’s razor, kids. Crazy attention-whore dude is crazy attention-whore.

    • Kamal Patel May 16, 2012 at 16:48

He even managed to draw you into comments! He is a world champion of attention-seeking for sure.

    • Richard Nikoley May 16, 2012 at 17:23

Well, as Linsay mentions below, I’m a fan of the friar.

I’ve been online since 1991, when you had to put your rotary phone literally into a MODEM. I have never been hacked and I have more reason to have been than most.

There’s really only one way to deal with this: onus of proof. It’s his account and did hours of DD on this. Namely, there’s not one single wit of anything else that would lead you to even a smidgen of a suspicion that he was being fucked with.

Kamel’s other stuff if right on, beasteality wise. We’re all different beasts, but we’re human and can be reasoned with even when we fuck up the most.

I’ve found over a lot of trying that Jack is deaf.

    • Lindsay May 16, 2012 at 17:29

As a completely irrelevant aside, Richard, if you like ol’ Bill of O, I highly recommend the excellent science fiction novel “Eifelheim.”

    • M. May 16, 2012 at 18:53

“appears I have been hack all over social media……”

He’s getting confused by his own lies. By “all over social media” he means the twitter account and now supposedly the facebook account. But everyone here knows the twitter account was not a hack job. It was a parody site. He did lie to the media though and said his twitter account was hacked. Kruse is just a pathological liar. His claim that the facebook account got hacked is probably about the same level of honesty as his claim to the media about his twitter account being hacked.

Or about as honest as his claim about his attorney deposing a suspect in 5-day old open FBI investigation and then publicly stating that the suspect is no longer connected to the crime that the FBI is still investigating. Not only do depositions in civil cases take time, you have to give the opposing litigants and their lawyers an opportunity to be present. Jack doesn’t even know who the opposing litigants are and hasn’t even filed his civil case yet.

Jack’s a pathological liar. He tweeted that the FBI traced IP addresses to NY, Chicago, and Boston. He told one of the TV stations that the ringleader lady was from NY. He said that this “Lance” guy has been deposed by Jack’s civil attorney 5 days after the FBI opened their criminal investigation and that this suspect has been essentially cleared of all criminal offenses. He told the media that his twitter account had been hacked. And now he says his facebook account has been hacked. Pathetic.

    • M. May 16, 2012 at 19:37

      Addendum to my previous comment:

I might have my tinfoil hat on (and be a little too drunk), but I could also easily see Jack staging a “hacking” of his facebook account to garner more support for the narrative that he has been pushing to the media about hacked twitter accounts and identity fraud.

But the thing is I don’t know if a fake picture is really the worst of his lies when you look at all the crap that he has been saying since this began, and I will reiterate that it just seems mind-boggling to me that Jack claimed his civil lawyer deposed a suspect in a 5-day old open FBI investigation and that Jack basically claimed that the suspect had been cleared of all charges by his civil attorney.

For a civil deposition you need to issue subpoenas, you need to give notice, you need give notice to opposing litigants, you need to know who these opposing litigants are, and you need to have an active lawsuit going.

Good point, CS. Although I think Kamel has a nice ring to it, I bet Kamal is sick of seeing his name misspelled.

Don’t know him (Kruse), don’t care. But your comment crystallizes the other liar/embellisher he reminds me of: Sarah Palin.

    • Woodey May 16, 2012 at 17:48

Raise awareness of how a scammer acts. Hopefully people won’t be quick to jump on the next quack’s bandwagon just because they align themselves with a certain community.

    • Chloe May 16, 2012 at 18:29

Funny you should mention that, Woodey. Jack was, in fact, part of another online community years ago. A few weeks ago a little birdy emailed me a link to a forum post on http://www.titansreport.com (strangely, it disappeared in the wake of Kruse-gate, but I managed to get a screen shot of the cached version . . . http://i.imgur.com/vqi0F.png, but not of the 100+ responses).

It turns out that Jack used to frequently post on football forums as “Bongo59” (he was also a big poster on Disney timeshare forums, but that’s another story). The really amazing part (to me, anyway) is that he seemed to serve exactly the same function on those football forums as he does in the paleosphere. Some people hung on his every word. Others thought he was a total fraud. He portrayed himself as a football insider with top-secret knowledge of upcoming trades, derived from being a medical consultant for NFL teams and knowing insider information about player health. He was often inaccurate and would become defensive and insulting when people called him out. He’s definitely the same Jack that we’re used to–tons of hyperbole, ellipses, misspellings, and narcissism. Here are some the best quotes I’ve found . . .

Bong59 warning another forum member of the dangers of MRSA (http://bit.ly/JhLSx6):

Other forum member: “I felt obligated to visit my mom when she contracted MRSA, but I have to tell you I felt very uneasy being there.”
Bongo59: “you need to wear masks and gowns then……………but the best thing is to stay away………….use a cell phone…………..and i hate to tell you this…………once you get it…………you usually become a carrier…………so if you touch or kiss your momma you may get colonized…………..not kidding.”
Bongo59: “get tested with a nasal swab especially before any surgery………………
Bongo59: “if the nurses and docs did not use precautions then you went to a bad facility…………..that is terrible infection control and likely why I would never ever go back there.”

      Bongo59 insulting people:

“Dr. Z has 6 ****in brain cell 5 of which are infected with a spirochete and one that is shortcircuited…..he should just go to bourbon street in a whore house and get ass raped by the dominator on decatur house!!!!!!that is how i feel about the asswipe” (http://bit.ly/JLps3o)

“remember getting into Med School with all the Ivy leaguer elitists…………and they frowned down on anyone from a lesser school……………..funny thing is by yr two of med school when i was the top ranked student they all sure changed their tune and fast” (http://bit.ly/JfYRyw)

“Now you cant even comprehend your own post or maybe you can not construct a written thought and tranlate it via a lexicon…………….youre a marroon on this one……………Givens may bust or may not…………no one knows because he has not had the ability to play at all due to injury…………..but you have Givens all figured out…………………………..unfreakingbelie vable”

    • M. May 17, 2012 at 05:52

Wow. He even used “marroon” back then instead of “moron.”

    • Chloe May 17, 2012 at 07:47

I know! And he loves that spirochete insult. He used that on Dr. Harris once.

    • Carl Lewis May 17, 2012 at 09:49

      Woweee.

Jack lies under oath about neurosurgery, Jack lies in NFL forums, Jack lies about signing a book deal with Mark Sisson, Jack lies about gaining 150 pounds on his bench press without training just from CT, Jack lies about Michael Phelp’s training temperature, Jack lies about…who knows what else?

    • VW May 17, 2012 at 09:57

This new episode really does not shock me. I expect that this guy’s fall from grace will continue, with more lies coming out each week. It’s lamentable that people are still sticking up for him and holding on to the “I was hacked!” prayer.

No way in hell I’d ever say “I told you so!” to anyone, much less Richard. At the same time, I felt that Richard was compromising his own considerable analytical instincts in order to continue his neutrality towards Kruse, simply because Richard likes to take up for a person who appears to be getting picked on. (Of course, I don’t know Richard, so this is pretty much just fantasy on my part.)

Anyway, no spiking the football here, but it was painfully obvious from the very beginning with this guy, to me, when he was posting as “Dr. K” and attempting to pass off other peoples words as his own.

    • Carl Lewis May 17, 2012 at 10:11

On paleohacks, he would copy and paste things from the internet and claim them as his own. When someone would call him out, he’d call them a hater. Things haven’t changed!

What’s funny is that he said long ago that he completely avoids the elitists/dummies at paleohacks. That isn’t true. If you click on his profile, you can see that he checks paleohacks like every 20-30 minutes throughout the day, even when he’s in surgery.

    • VW May 17, 2012 at 10:18

Carl, he would literally copy and paste some doctor’s article from somewhere about treatmeant of a patient, trying to pass it off as his own treatment of one of his patients. I busted him twice on it and each time he did indeed call me a “hater,” and made some excuse for why he tried to make it look like they were his words.

      I was fucking dumbfounded.

Reading the football stuff makes me certain that there’s more out there on the web. I guarantee that there’s more crazy shit with this guy.

    • VW May 17, 2012 at 10:41

So he’s “bongo59” on all of these football forums I’m finding?

      http://www.jetsinsider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116974

“A medical professional who posts on a Tennessee Titan’s message board as “Bongo59”, has stated on a few occasions that Allen’s injury may prohibit him from living out his dream of playing in the NFL. “Bongo59″ works as a medical consultant with the NFL and the Tennessee Titans. He is a regular poster on Tennessee Titans message boards and provides regular scoops.”

      http://outermonvolia.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_outermonvolia_archive.html

    • Chloe May 17, 2012 at 11:43

Yeah, as far as I can tell he is the bongo59 you find all over football forums (not just Titans ones).

    • David Csonka May 17, 2012 at 20:48

Ok, I could handle the other stuff, even the fake photo – but the football stuff? Wow, holy shit. What is this guy’s problem? Narcissistic pathological liar complex?

    • Chloe May 18, 2012 at 16:02

What’s worse than being a narcissistic pathological liar? A narcissistic pathological liar who shares confidential medical information in online forums (or maybe he was lying about this stuff too? you never know with Jack).

“Dr Uribe does…………and he is involved in this case….hate all you want………..he is going to have a microfracture proceedure on his right knee……….he went on Ir because the docs wont let him come back for 9-12 months…………i’ll bet you he starts next yr on the PUP…………..that is what is wrong with his knee. ”

“his surgery was completed at 2:35…………PM today…………you’ll hear the rumors of what he had done soon…………his surgery started at 11:35 AM…………..no scope procedure takes that long…………… ”

“you dont get links for anesthsia records…………..but when you know the board runner in the hospital………..you get the proceedure and in and out times………..” (http://bit.ly/JovGcC)

    • Chloe May 18, 2012 at 16:04

This is a great quote about Bongo59 from some other forum member:

“This is Bongo’s addiction. It’s his drug.

If he’s not posting here, he’s doing it elsewhere.

      This guy needs help.”

  6. Travis Steward May 16, 2012 at 14:53

I think the quality of not listening to the crowd and instead choosing to decide for yourself is an extremely powerful trait. Such logic leads to proper eating and lifestyle in its own right. However, at times, you will find yourself giving something of poor quality the benefit of the doubt. This is the nature of the process. The fact you gave Jack a chance is precisely why you’ve discovered and communicated such profound truths to us all, and why you are and will continue to be an intellectual leader for this crazy new “paleo” movement, in my mind.

God does not do, nor does god hear, see, taste or perceive? WHY????? Because concept of god is just that….a human being made aspect of a narrative that gives the psyche exactly what it craves: certainty and comfort….That is it….

Know this about the human beings….We build….we assemble….we crave certainty…we crave comfort….Think critically through an evolutionary lens and all comes slightly more into focus.

I am sort of dumbfounded that people are still having this back and forth over the concept and potential existence of a supernatural being. It’s like convincing a member of the Flat Earth Society that the Earth is not really flat. I wonder how long that took to convince the rest of the believers? 100 years or more, I’d guess.

God believers, like the rest of the believers in a fantastical construct – must assemble and create such an inner environment to gain remedy over their psychological fears; namely the fear of loss.

As well, the fact you made your error public and have opened yourself up to criticism speaks volumes of your character.
