I operate a side business renting out our vacation home in the Sierras of the California Gold Country in Arnold, CA; and also just recently, the luxurious and Top World, 5-Star Resort & Spa, the Grand Solmar at Land’s End in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The brief history is that after acquiring our vacation home in Arnold in 2002, we retained it exclusively for ourselves, friends & family for nearly 10 years—family/friend get-togethers, holidays, and get-aways for Beatrice & I. In the summer of 2011, finally paying attention to the cost, we decided to offer it on the vacation rental market—with no idea that it would become the most popular place among about 65 vacation properties in Arnold. With 39 all-5-star reviews at this point. In fact, when the listing went live at the end of June, 2011, we immediately began booking for the rest of the summer and on into the winter.
Due to that marvelous success—which keeps it rented out almost every weekend of the year—and a good amount of weekdays in the summer and winter—we decided to try another property. So, when we were down in Cabo on vacation over the New Year, we got set up to rent out both one bedroom suites (1,248 sq ft) and studios (737 sq ft)—or combined in a “lockoff” configuration—with tons of availability and flexibility for desired dates of stay.
Luxurious 3-Level Chalet Nestled in the Pines of the Sierras
Here’s the listing on VRBO, as well as HomeAway. There’s 24 pictures on the property and here’s the short 2.5 min video tour.
It’s a pride & joy thing for me because it took so long to get it. But we finally got it. And six weeks later it nearly burnt to the ground. So I wiped away the tears and rebuilt it to exacting specifications. Yes, those floors are pine. The bathroom countertops are wood. The kitchen countertops are 100% butcher block and guests are encouraged to distress them. The kitchen cabinets are hickory. Beatrice did most of the decorating, and Cabela’s is a friend for life. For a look at what it looked like before the fire and just after the fire, see here.
In addition to those 39-all-5-star reviews, guests also get to add to the guestbook which is getting thick. Having rented it to a Swedish ski team last winter and three parties at different times from the UK last summer, it’s quite an eclectic read. I love that the first party from the UK were able to see wild deer grazing in the yard one morning over coffee.
…And it seems women sometimes particularly love the place for the way it influences husband and boyfriend behavior.

Grand Solmar Land’s End – Cabo’s Premier 5-Star Resort & Spa
Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa
Leaving people speechless since 2011.
Faces tell the whole story. Jaws drop. Eyes widen. Grins curl from ear-to-ear. In short order a look appears that says, ‘This is even better than I expected. I made the perfect choice.’
When voices are found, there’s amazement over the location impossibly situated between cliff and sea. Pelicans soaring over golden sands and sailboats scooting across blue waves. Infinity edge pools with swim-up dining. White-canvassed cabanas complete with poolside massages. And a seasoned staff who wait, hands folded, for the next opportunity to serve.
Thoughtfulness and thoroughness are the trademarks of the Grand Solmar. Every detail was considered right down to the intricate designs in the walkways, the stone entries to the rooms and the subterranean passages for the staff.
This is an exciting new property, an elevated standard of luxury and an undeniable chance to be left speechless. Why not let your fingers do the talking and book a reservation today.

I’ve stayed in suites at the Four Seasons that don’t quite measure up. The short, 1.5 min video.
It’s quite a place and interestingly enough, most of my inquiries and rentals are from those who’ve already stayed there once over the last couple of years since it opened in 2011.

The cabin up in the mountains, my first vacation rental, taught me well. That the only thing I want to offer is a top destination, because I simply won’t settle for anything but to provide everything I can imagine you’d want during a time that’s of prime importance to you. And I want you to love and appreciate each other more when you leave than when you arrived.
So let me know when you want to get rustic in the pines. You get to walk barefoot on pinewood floors, drink cocktails before the BBQ is ready, and all while listening to my hand-picked classic rock collection—or Bea’s hand-picked top-hits—on the 2 iPods we’ve left there for guests to plug into the Bose (you can also stream your own music wirelessly).
Or, if Cabo Party Town is your deal—with a place to be pampered in luxury a few minutes walk away—is your thing, I can help you with that, too. For either just click on any of the booking links and send in an inquiry. And be sure to mention that you heard it here in order to get your discount.
Update: Oh, BTW, in case it’s important to any Cowboys fans, this resort was built by the same contractor who built your billion dollar stadium. 🙂
